Movement in Practice is the use of movement and dance to enhance people’s lives in business, education, dance, and healthcare settings. Created by Occupational Therapist Lindsey Lovatt and Dance Psychologist Dr Peter Lovatt, the Movement in Practice Academy provides education and training in the psychology of, and meaningful application of, movement. This approach is based on a combination of psychological theory, movement and context.
The psychological theory is evidence-based and framed around the Movement in Practice STEP model, which considers four elements of human experience – Social, Thinking, Emotion and Physical (STEP). The movement element is both practical and physical and always tied to aspects of psychological theory. We believe (and the scientific evidence clearly shows) that when you move you improve. The context element is how and where Movement in Practice is applied. Each training programme is designed to address a specific set of needs.
About the programme
Past Workshops

The Social Brain
The first training took place in March and looked at our social and thinking human experiences. We examined psychological theory, movement and context, how moving together can improve social cohesion and help develop high-performing teams. We worked on how movement can change the way you think, for example, by helping you to adapt your leadership style to transition between being a team player and a “soloist”.

It felt very special to have that insight that you wouldn't get from watching a performance or reading a book. It was really live and interactive."

There were lots of lessons we can bring into our day-to-day business, and how to get the best out of any situation."

The Emotional Body
This training will look at your emotional and physical human experiences. We will examine through psychological theory, movement and context how movement can help you to build resilience to reduce workplace burnout and to handle setbacks and challenges. You will also learn how movement can be used to boost physical health by unlocking the secrets of body awareness, relaxation, and stress reduction techniques.
